GALA Choruses Managers and Directors Retreat
January 13-15, New Orleans
Hello OGC Family! New Orleans was a great location to host the GALA Managers and Directors Retreat. Some of the topics of discussion in my classes were "Keeping Your Chorus Relevant", "Working On Chorus Fatigue", "Chorus Growing Pains" and "Chorus Visioning". Congratulations OGC! With the recent addition of members new and former, OGC is now in the top 15 choruses of GALA within the 100-200 member category.
The GALA Festival committees are working hard to make this event better than ever. One of the interesting things they are working on is creating a GALA Festival app for smart phones. The app will encompass the entire Festival schedule and allow delegates to create their own schedule of events. And for all you tweeters out there...yup...you can do that, too! GALA is also working on the environmental impact of the Festival and will not be printing the massive program books. A downloadable PDF version will be available should delegates desire to print and plan their own schedule in that manner. GALA anticipates attendance by over 5000 delegates representing the 180 choruses that are participating in the GALA Festival - so you can see why this "going green" will have a huge impact! Also a huge, virtual, world-wide sing-along is in the planning stages for closing ceremonies.
We are so lucky to have all four of our small ensembles performing at Festival. We are a huge part of the 25% increase in ensemble participation. Programming for our ensembles and full chorus will be crucial as this will set the our tone at Festival. It's going to be exciting to bring the OGC brand to Denver! Be proud OGC! Attending GALA Festival 2012 will be an amazing way to represent Central Florida and bond our chorus like never before! We will share more on GALA very soon.
