Inspiring individuals, the community and the world
through excellence in musical entertainment.

GREAT! You wish to join our organization. We're always looking to expand our family of members. OGC is not only about creating superior quality musical shows; we're also about having a great time doing it! We have found over the years that the sense of family created within the chorus often leads to life-long friendships.

Membership in OGC is open to all persons age 18 or older upon approval of the Board of Directors. Special conditions apply to minors, age 16 and 17, who are accepted as members.

Are there limits to the number of singers?
OGC is growing! To help manage the Chorus's growth, the Board of Directors has set limits on the number of singers and our Artistic Director has set limits by singing section.

May alumni return to sing with the Orlando Gay Chorus?
We love to have singers return to OGC! Singers who have not performed in our previous two concerts must re-audition. Please use the "Join Us" form by clicking Here to request an audition.

If you are interested in joining the Chorus as a performer, you will need to read the section about auditions. If you would rather join our Support team, there is no need to audition. Please skip over the audition information and jump down to read about our amazing Support Team.

The Audition Process

We sing SATB (Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass) and are committed to performing a wide range of musical styles - from classical to camp and patriotic to pop.

OGC will hold auditions for our 25th Anniversary concert One Voice, to be performed in June, on January 7th and 11, 2015.

Please fully complete and submit the audition application on our Membership "Join Us" page by Clicking Here page and you will be contacted by our Membership Team.

The word "audition" sounds a little scary but there's no need to be nervous! We're not looking for the next Streisand or Sinatra! OGC has developed a reputation for holding the most comfortable of auditions. (And don't be intimidated by our Artistic Director or his resume - or by the accompanist or a chosen singing member who may sit in on the audition. They all want you to do well!)

What do I need to prepare for my audition and what can I expect?
No preparation is needed. Simply show up at your scheduled audition time and begin by filling out a brief questionnaire. Our auditions are neither competitive nor are they designed to see if you can out-sing anyone. There are many skill levels represented in the chorus.

What does the audition consist of?
The audition is designed to evaluate your voice and will take only a few minutes. You will meet individually with the Artistic Director who will have you repeat some basic rhythmic patterns and pitch match to evaluate the range of your voice. You may also be asked to sing a very familiar melody.

When will I know the results of my audition?
You'll be notified of the results of your audition before you leave. If you're accepted into Orlando Gay Chorus as either a singing member or support member, you'll be welcomed at the first rehearsal (January 14th) and introduced to your Section Leader and the entire chorus membership.

OGC's Amazing Support Team

These men and women work tirelessly behind the scenes at each rehearsal and in both front-of-house and back-of-house capacities at our concerts, fundraising performances and outreach events. There literally would be no OGC if there was no Support Section...and singing members bow to and honor them! Assisting the Support Section is OGC's part-time Office Manager, the only non-artistic paid position in our organization.

Look at what this extraordinary group of individuals does!

  • Handles and processes all finanical transactions for the chorus
  • Manages all facets of ticket sales and tracking
  • Organizes and runs fundraising for Toys For Tots Bicycles (last year we donated 69 bikes!)
  • Completes all mail-out advertising to patrons
  • Provides guest services at all concerts (our patrons love them!)
  • Organizes and runs all front-of-house activities at concerts and performances, including tickets, Will Call, ushering, silent auction, and any merchandise sales

What happens next?

As either a singing or support member, we request that you attend weekly rehearsals for any concert period in which you are performing or assisting.

At the first rehearsal, you'll be asked to attend a new member orientation where you'll meet the chorus leadership, be given information about schedules, rehearsal formats, and an overview of how the chorus operates. The event is casual and designed to help you get better acquainted with us.

What is the cost involved with joining the chorus?
Singing and Support members pay annual Corporate Dues of $50. Singing members pay an additional $40 in Performance Prep Fees for each concert in which they perform. All dues and fees are non-refundable. Periodically, singing members may be requested to make a small financial investment in concert attire. OGC does its best to assist where cost is an issue.

Rehearsals and Attendance

We encourage all singing and support members to participate our two main concerts each season. In addition, we present various outreach and fundraising performances throughout the community during the year.

Rehearsals are held Wednesday evenings from 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm at the First United Church of Christ located at 4605 Curry Ford Road, Orlando, FL 32812. These include vocal warm-ups, sectionals and full chorus rehearsals. From time to time, other rehearsals may be scheduled by our Artistic Director, with advance notice. A technical rehearsal is scheduled the week of each concert.

You'll be expected to attend all rehearsals during any concert prep period. An attendance rate falling below 80% will require a meeting with the Artistic Director to determine your readiness to sing in a concert. We are concerned when we don't see you and request that you let your Section Leader know, in advance, of any absence.

The Orlando Gay Chorus follows an equal opportunity employment policy and employs personnel without regard to race, creed, color, religion, national origin, ancestry, heritage, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, physical or mental disability, veteran status or marital status.
